Episode 1: Defining Us
How do you define yourself? Is it based on where you originated from? Your ancestors? Your race? In a colonial system, why must we have to defend who we are? Isn’t how we self-identify enough?
In August of this year, the Federal Government awarded billions of dollars to non-verified Indigenous-owned businesses. As the backdrop for our kick off of the second season of Canadian Salad, we will take a deep dive into the complex issues of identity, race, culture, and ethnicity.
There is nuance and complexity in identity, with our ever evolving journey into new locations, new cultures and new societies. And proving who we are to a system which tells us who we need to be isn’t living our human experience at all.
Self-determination is a human right. And it’s also complicated. How do we advocate for that right for ourselves and for others in Canada? What does a self-determined society look like - especially for underrepresented people? Join us for our first episode of Season Two!
